Launching Careers: How LINC’s Summer Program Turns Interns into Full-Time Hires

At LINC, we know that the key to strengthening the Lehigh Valley workforce starts with making early career professionals feel at home. Every summer, interns, co-ops, residents, and fellows arrive in our community to gain hands-on experience in industries ranging from engineering to healthcare.

Through LINC’s Early Career Summer Program, LINC ensures interns and other young professionals don’t just see Lehigh Valley, PA as a brief stop for a summer job—they see it as a place to build their future career.

Nationally, two in three interns secure a full-time job after their internship ends (NACE). In the Lehigh Valley, that number grows even higher with the right support system in place. LINC’s programming is designed to help early career professionals not only succeed in their roles but also develop lasting connections, experience the region, and envision a future here.

Engaging Interns Beyond the Workplace

LINC’s Early Career Summer Program provides a mix of social and professional events that allow interns and early career professionals to connect, network, and fall in love with the region. The program is available to all Lehigh Valley employers who would like their interns to participate.

Generous support from our 2024 sponsor organizations enabled LINC to serve more than 150 interns last year. Summer Internship Sponsors include B. Braun, Lutron, and Victaulic.

Some of the past summer highlights include:

  • Drive-In Movie Night at Shankweiler’s Drive-In
Experience America’s oldest drive-in with a private space for lawn games, food, and drinks before the movie begins.

  • Lehigh Valley Trivia Night
One of LINC’s best-attended summer events, bringing together 100+ interns, co-ops, and residents to meet each other while learning about the region.

  • Concert Meet-ups at ArtsQuest and Rock the Walk

This year, LINC is planning a fun, competitive night of entertainment at B. Social where young professionals can play arcade games, bowl, and enjoy axe throwing, while fostering connections in a relaxed setting.

Activities are held in June and July and seek to offset other company-focused events, such as outings to watch the Iron Pigs at Coca-Cola Park or Intern Impact Day.

Beyond these signature events, LINC can provide interns at your company with additional services based on your needs:

  • Virtual webinars on housing, transportation, and recreation options

  • Welcome bags at orientation with discounts to local shops and restaurants

  • Invitations to 2-3 monthly events open to all LINC clients

Building the Future Workforce

By offering early career professionals a chance to truly experience the Lehigh Valley, LINC is helping employers strengthen their talent pipeline. The result? More young professionals choosing to stay, work, and contribute to the growth of our community.

"LINC's Early Career Summer Program has allowed our interns to connect with young professionals from other companies across the Lehigh Valley and gain a better understanding of the surrounding area. It also helps our interns connect outside of work hours to further strengthen their bonds and networking abilities for the future."
