Planning for Your Future

Listen as our expert panel dives into how planning for your future is something that everyone should do to protect yourself and loved ones.

Taylor R.D. Briggs, Esq., Associate at Norris McLaughlin, P.A. and Alexander D. Magid, Esq, CTFA, Senior Trust Officer and Senior VP at Univest Bank and Trust Co. joined LINC to share just how important it is to plan ahead, no matter what stage of life you’re in. Here a few key takeaways, but be sure to check out the full recording!

  • The three main documents that everyone should have: will, power of attorney, and medical power of attorney (living will)
  • Every state has specific laws, so consulting with a legal team after a move to a new state is critical
  • It is essential to have proactive conversations with your loved ones about your plans

Action Items for Now!

The panel suggested two action items to get started:

  • Review how your assets are titled and how your beneficiary designations are set up
  • Make sure your loved ones are aware of your assets and keep the lines of communication open
  • Consult with a legal team to review the nuances of the legal process

About Our Panel

Joining Katelyn Mack, LINC’s President are two knowledgeable leaders from Lehigh Valley organizations that can assist the community in planning for the future.

Taylor is an attorney who offers a comprehensive suite of estate planning and estate administration services. She drafts detailed estate plans—including wills, trusts, business succession plans, and powers of attorney—and advises clients on avoiding common pitfalls while preparing their loved ones for fiduciary roles. Taylor also assists with all aspects of estate and trust administration, such as preparing complex Pennsylvania inheritance tax returns, court accountings, and fiduciary releases, while advocating for beneficiaries’ rights in disputes and litigation. Additionally, she manages tax controversy matters by collaborating with accountants to resolve non-filer cases, penalty abatements, hobby loss rules, and fraud.

Taylor earned her J.D. from the American University Washington College of Law and her B.A. from Lehigh University. Taylor is originally from Minnesota where she grew up working at her family’s marina and boat dealership. At Lehigh University, Taylor volunteered for Turning Point of the Lehigh Valley and served on the University Committee on Discipline. Today, Taylor is an active member of the Northampton County Bar Association (NCBA).

  • Alexander D. Magid, Esq., CTFA, Senior Trust Officer and Senior VP, Univest Bank and Trust Co.

Alex is a Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CTFA) and a licensed attorney in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He is also a member of the Pennsylvania Joint State Government Commission Advisory Committee on Decedents’ Estates and Trust Laws.

In his current role, Alex serves as the primary salesperson for the trust business, managing a comprehensive portfolio with a focus on Special Needs Trusts (SNTs), high net-worth individuals, and complex estate plans. With over 10 years of experience in the financial services industry, Alex helps clients navigate complex estate plans by providing expert problem-solving guidance, ensuring their wishes are fulfilled, and addressing any challenges that arise. He actively administers trusts, overseeing the management and execution of trust provisions to ensure compliance and optimal outcomes for beneficiaries.

Alex’s motivation for becoming a trust officer stems from his transition from private practice in estate planning to administering trusts on the bank side. This shift allowed him to leverage his legal expertise in a new and fulfilling way, making a positive impact on the lives of his clients.
